Bauzi

Bautzi - the word just rolls off the tongue!  They are yummy little steamed rolls with surprises in the center! We get little ones at the corner stores on the main street for about 20 cents.  They are filled with vegis or pork.  Very good!  We were so kindly given some large ones by a boy that uses the English name Jack (more on Jack later).  They were filled with either pork or bean paste that looks like chocolate.  But don't be fooled, that's not chocolate in there.  Jack's favorites are the bean paste, but we prefer the pork.

Xuanwu Lake

This wall surrounds Nanjing from hundreds of years ago.  Many cities have old walls that you can walk along the top.  We haven't walked Nanjing's yet.  Behind it is the very large lake.

These steps take you down to the wall entrance.  It's a passageway to get through.

The lake is large and gorgeous.  It's about a 20 minute walk from our apartment.  You can boat here.  We took one with our niece, Hailey, later in November.  It was cold then.  Here it is September and still very warm.

It's very warm, this is just haze.  Things are starting to die for the fall though.

People come here to exercise.  They do it alone or there are large groups.  They do a slow style aerobics to all sorts of music, including Chinese.

These type of reliefs are all over China.  They like this type of pictorial depiction.  They are very nice.

They do like to exercise and stretch.  See the man between the trees.  They love exercising in nature.

Nanjing 300,000 Massacre Memorial

We visited the Memorial in Nanjing. The massacre occurred in 1937, shortly before WWII.  The Japanese attacked here and massacred the Chinese for about 6 weeks.  It's an amazing memorial, very well made and very sobering.  These tragedies are very sad.

Nanjing City Life

This is crossing the streets of Nanjing.  We have to watch for buses, cars, taxis (who are really crazy), motorcycles, electric bikes, and bikes.  Pedestrians are last on the totem pole.

The traffic lanes are all over.  Even left turn lanes on the right of the straight thru lanes!

We have little stores lining the streets like this.  They are from clothing to print shops, bike repair, to little restaurants this size.

Above is a fancy mall we have several stops away on the Metro (subway).  It's called the Deji Plaza.  It's very spendy and this is at the top on the 8th floor looking down.

Above and to the side is a guy we met who was with his friends celebrating his birthday. They saw us speaking English and wanted to talk, then the friends left and he wanted to stay with us.  He walked around with us and he didn't want us to leave when we did.  He was very nice and we bought him a birthday ice cream.

Below you can see the very trendy stores.  Very different from the street stores we have down our roads.
