1st Day of Classes!
After much preparation we started to teach classes. Scott was given 2 classes of graduate students that meet twice a week for 2 hours each class. He also teaches an undergrad class of Math students (they call is Maths like the Irish).
Sandy teaches 5 different sections of undergrads in Maths, Mechanics and Chemistry. Our Maths, Mechanics and Chemistry will be going overseas their 4th year to Ireland or other countries to finish their last year at a University there. They need to learn English so they will understand their classes there.
This is a picture of one of my classrooms. I need to take more pictures of the university.
The Students are very nice and polite. I was quite nervous to teach those 1st classes, but it was alright. We find it somewhat hard to know if we are making sense to them in English, but each class gets a little better. They are shy and don't like to answer questions much, so it's taking time to pull them out of their shells. We'll keep working at it though. We struggle with getting the technology to work here in China. It's been time-consuming to get our students registered on our American web based programs.
